Drawing Pendulums

Set the pendulums in motion by pushing them with your hands and then releasing them. The speed and movement of the pendulums determine the pattern they make. The likelihood that someone else would release the pendulums in exactly the same way at exactly the same height is as good as non-existent. That’s why each pattern is unique.

If you look closely, you can see that the pendulum’s movements get progressively smaller and smaller. The pattern changes linearly as the pendulum comes to a stop due to air resistance and friction.

In the past, the same technique was used to give banknotes patterns that couldn’t be forged.
